Catch up... Newfoundland

Here are some pictures from when we went to Newfoundland back in May.

Stunning views as we took the scenic route up Signal Hill

Turned out taking bikes was a bad idea! It was a long walk full of steps and uneven ground. Luckily Amy, Mike and I had decided not to rent bikes!

Views around St. John's

The conference social event full of authentic Newfoundland music

We had different coloured scarves to show which group we were with

After the conference was over we spent the day with Manjusha and Nikil and went on a long walk. We were so worn out afterwards and desperately looking for a place to stop and refuel. Then we found a little cafe called Gracie Joe's which was just what we needed. And after that we realized we were in fact just round the corner from our hotel after all!

Views as we were driving around Newfoundland

Just outside Bonavista we found the most amazing place to eat! This place was so good it is now one of my all time  favourite restaurants - The Bonavista Social Club. When I first suggested this place to Mike he was not interested because of the name - social club. That doesn't sound like somewhere we would like, but the people at the B&B we stayed at suggested we go there without us mentioning it so off we went.
This is the view from our table

They grow their own vegetables in the soil just beyond the tables, they have their own goats for milk and chicken for eggs on the grass beyond that. If you order a salad they go outside and pick the vegetables right in front of you! We even saw one of the staff carrying pails of milk back into the restaurant.

The food was SO good! For dessert I have blueberry creme brulee and it was delicious. We actually came back here for lunch the next day and I had the creme brulee again!

Mike had a brownie with maple walnut ice cream which was also very good!
