Calgary 5th - 6th October

This weekend we went to Calgary, the largest city in Alberta which is about a 3 hour drive south from here - literally straight down one road, and it's the only road between the two cities.
On the way we stopped in Red Deer and took our Tim Hortons to Bower Ponds by the fountain.

We visited Calgary Farmer's Market.

Then we went for lunch at Craft Beer Market. There's meant to be one opening in Edmonton soon but the date keeps getting pushed back and Mike has been looking forward to going there!

The food is locally sourced and was delicious!

After lunch we went on a walk to the Inglewood neighbourhood and passed Fort Calgary on the way.

We were headed to The Uncommons to check out their selection of Camp Brand Goods clothing. I managed to get a t-shirt but they didn't have the jumper I was after. Going to have to hope it become available agin online and in my size!

While we were in the shop, the guy was saying so many people seemed to have come down from Edmonton this weekend and that it must be because everyone is getting their trip in while the road is still passable, before winter hits!

Downtown Calgary.

For dinner we went to Big T's BBQ and Smokehouse, opposite the stadium for the Calgary Stampeders football team, where we could hear the game going on. It was pretty busy round there but we managed to get in the restaurant.

Somehow we don't have a photo of Mike's beer, but we called into at least 3 liquor stores looking for a particular beer that evening - Toolshed Star Cheek, which is brewed in Calgary.

For breakfast we went to OEB which was so good! It's very popular and we had to wait 40 minutes outside to get in!

Tastes as good as it looks!

On the way home we stopped in Cochrane, a quaint suburb of Calgary.

We went to Mackays and got some of their famous ice cream.

Chocolate, vanilla and pumpkin.

We drove past a farmer's market so stopped off to investigate.

Postcard views on the drive home.

There had been an accident on the road so we were going very slowly as all the traffic had to merge into one lane. Some driver's were too impatient for that though! See the cars driving down the hard shoulder, and on the grass at the side!

It sounds like you had a treat weekend and that food looks especially yummy ( it's one of our fasting days which makes it look particularly good) What a shame you couldn't get the jumper you wanted.

    Love mum x
