Elk Island 27-29 September

Posted by Unknown on Friday 4 October 2013.

Last weekend we went to Elk Island for our final camping trip of the season. It was a little chilly on Saturday morning (ie freezing!) but once we got a fire going we were fine and the rest of the time the temperature was warm enough. There were quite a few other people tent camping too, so that was reassuring!
The weather has now shifted towards winter and it is much colder. Apparently we had 'wet snow' during the night on Tuesday and yesterday there was hail. It has been coat and glove weather all week, but it is warming up slightly for this weekend again.

Our new car! We pulled over at the visitors centre for Mike to take over the driving as we were off the main roads and it was pretty quiet. However, the wildlife was out in full force and we had to stop a few times for bison on the road.

The next day we went to Beaver Hill Pond for a walk, but the pond seems to have disappeared. This happened last time we were in Elk Island and went to Tawayik Lake and there was just grass and no lake. We didn't see any wildlife but got to see the Autumn colours!

We then went to Astotin Lake and did the Boardwalk Walk there, and then ended up on the playground!

This is back on our campsite.

After dinner we went for a drive since we had seen so much wildlife the previous evening (we had also seen a moose while we were on the Highway coming to the park the day before) and we saw bison. Lots of bison, and also 3 coyotes!
